Bark beetles cause problems in forests worldwide, which leads to large amounts of timber (value) loss and high costs. In the case of a large outbreak, entire ecosystems can be destroyed. Since the bark beetle lays its eggs under the bark of a tree, their presence and activity are not always easy to notice in time.
We have developed a digital tool for foresters to detect the bark beetle activity in an early stage, which allows intervention to prevent large outbreaks. Our tool contributes to saving trees, maintaining timber value, and keeping losses to a minimum.
Currently, our tool provides a risk analysis on stand-level every 14 days in our online portal. Here, the forester can see the development of risks in the forest. This way, targeted management becomes easier and less time-consuming. It is our goal to increase risk analysis frequency to every 2-5 days.
